Here's the simple version: isotretinoin can already make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you may sunburn faster than usual while on it. Coriander contains a compound called coriandrin that, at least in lab studies, seems to have its own mild light-sensitizing effect. Put those two together and the worry is that your skin could become a touch more sun-reactive than isotretinoin alone would cause.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one. It's theoretical, based on test-tube research and anecdotal reports, not real patient cases. Sprinkling cilantro on your tacos is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated coriander extracts or essential oils are where I'd be a little more cautious. Either way, lean on good sun protection and check with your pharmacist or dermatologist before adding any concentrated coriander product.

About Isotretinoin

What Is Isotretinoin Used For?

Brand names: Accutane, Amnesteem, Claravis, Sotret, Absorica, Roaccutane

Isotretinoin is used to treat severe recalcitrant nodular acne — large, deep, inflamed breakouts (nodules 5 mm or bigger) that haven't cleared with conventional treatments like antibiotics. It is approved for non-pregnant patients 12 years of age and older. Brands include Absorica, Absorica LD, Accutane, Amnesteem, Claravis, and generic isotretinoin capsules.

Because of its serious potential side effects, isotretinoin is reserved for patients whose acne is truly severe and has not responded to other standard treatments. A typical course lasts 15 to 20 weeks, and many patients experience prolonged remission — sometimes permanent clearing — after a single course.
