Here's the simple version: losartan (Cozaar) already lowers your blood pressure, and some animal studies suggest coriander may nudge blood pressure down a little too. Put them together and, in theory, the effects could stack, leaving you with blood pressure that runs lower than expected. Signs to watch for would be dizziness, lightheadedness (especially when you stand up quickly), tiredness, or feeling faint.

I want to keep this in perspective, though. This concern comes from lab and animal research, not solid human studies, so it's mostly theoretical. The cilantro you sprinkle on tacos or soup is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated coriander extracts or essential oils are where I'd be more cautious. If you're considering those, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Here's the gist with losartan (Cozaar) and coriander. This one isn't about how your body breaks the drug down or how well it controls your blood pressure. Instead, the concern is photosensitivity, meaning your skin could become a bit more prone to sunburn. Losartan is already grouped among medicines that can make some people more sun-sensitive, and a coriander compound called coriandrin has shown similar effects in lab dishes.

Honestly, this is theoretical and based on very weak, anecdotal evidence. Eating cilantro in your food is highly unlikely to cause any trouble. If you use concentrated coriander extracts or oils, just be a little smart in strong sun: sunscreen, a hat, and don't bake outdoors. Any new rash or easy burning? Mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

About Losartan

What Is Losartan Used For?

Brand name: Cozaar

Losartan tablets — available as branded Cozaar and several generic products — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Losartan tablets are also used to reduce the risk of stroke in people with high blood pressure who also have left ventricular hypertrophy (an enlarged left side of the heart). Note: evidence suggests this stroke-risk benefit may not apply to Black patients.

Losartan tablets are additionally approved to protect the kidneys in people with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and signs of kidney damage (diabetic nephropathy). Arbli, the oral suspension form, shares these same approved uses.
