Here's the simple version: hydromorphone is a strong opioid pain reliever, and one of its main effects is slowing down your brain and body. It can make you drowsy, foggy, or slow your breathing. Coriander, at least in animal studies, seems to have a mild calming or sedative effect of its own. So the worry is that the two together could add up and leave you sleepier or more sluggish than expected.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one. It's theoretical and based only on animal research, not human studies. The amount of coriander you eat in food is very unlikely to cause any problem. Concentrated extracts or essential oils are a different story. If you plan to use those while on hydromorphone, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Hydromorphone Used For?

Brand names: Dilaudid, Hydromorph Contin, Palladone

Hydromorphone is used to manage pain severe enough to require an opioid analgesic — when non-opioid medicines or other options have not worked or are not expected to work well enough. It is available in several forms: oral tablets, oral solution, rectal suppositories, and injectable formulations given into a vein, muscle, or under the skin.

Hydromorphone hydrochloride extended-release tablets are specifically for severe, persistent pain that requires around-the-clock opioid treatment for an extended period, and are only for opioid-tolerant patients — they are not for as-needed use. The high-potency injectable formulation is also reserved for opioid-tolerant patients who need higher opioid doses.
