Ticagrelor falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Docosahexaenoic Acid (dha) interacts with.

Theoretically, DHA may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Although some clinical evidence suggests that DHA might reduce collagen-stimulated platelet aggregation and thromboxane release, most clinical evidence suggests that DHA alone does not affect blood clotting. However, theoretically, when given in combination with EPA as fish oil, concomitant use with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs (including aspirin) might increase risk of bleeding.

Here's the simple version: Brilinta (ticagrelor) already works by keeping your platelets from clumping together, which is exactly how it protects you against another heart attack or stroke. DHA, an omega-3 fat, may nudge platelets in that same direction a little. Stack the two and, in theory, you could bruise or bleed more easily. Think nosebleeds that linger, bleeding gums, or a cut that takes longer to stop.

That said, the evidence here is on the weak side. Most studies show DHA on its own barely budges clotting, so this is mostly a theoretical concern, especially at the modest amounts in food. Higher-dose fish oil supplements are where I'd pay closer attention. Don't stop either one. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up and watch for unusual bruising or bleeding.

What Is Ticagrelor Used For?

Brand name: Brilinta

Ticagrelor tablets are used to lower the risk of cardiovascular death, heart attack (myocardial infarction), and stroke in adults who have had acute coronary syndrome (ACS) — a group of conditions including unstable angina and heart attack — or who have a history of heart attack. It also reduces the risk of stent thrombosis (a blood clot forming in a coronary stent) in people who have been stented for ACS treatment.

Ticagrelor tablets are also used in people with coronary artery disease (CAD) who are at high risk for a first heart attack or stroke, particularly those with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, Brilinta is approved to reduce the risk of stroke in adults with a mild acute ischemic stroke or a high-risk transient ischemic attack (TIA, or "mini-stroke").
