Dulse + Ranitidine
Ranitidine brand names: Zantac 150 EFFER, Zantac 150 GEL, Zantac 150, Zantac Geldose, Zantac, and others.
We found no known interaction between Dulse and Ranitidine in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Dulse and Ranitidine
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Ranitidine and Dulse in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Ranitidine
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Ranitidine is filed under 6 classifications — including h2-blockers, cytochrome p450 2d6 (cyp2d6) inhibitors, organic anion transporter 3 (oat3) substrates. Dulse has documented interactions with 7 drug classes — the most serious being amiodarine (cordarone) (moderate), antithyroid drugs (moderate) and digoxin (lanoxin) (moderate) — and none of Ranitidine’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Dulse Does Interact With Other Medications
Dulse has 23 moderate, 62 minor known drug interactions in our database — Ranitidine isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

Questions About Dulse or Ranitidine
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Dulse or Ranitidine, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

- Can Diet Pills Cause A Positive Drug Test? ›
- What Causes False Positives On Drug Tests? ›
Not quite your question? Ask our pharmacists directly — it is free, there is no account required, and answers usually come back within 24 hours.
See Every Supplement That Interacts With Ranitidine
This page covers Dulse only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Ranitidine page lists 74 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), St. John's Wort (major), African Wild Potato (moderate), Banderol (moderate) and Beer (moderate).
By severity: 2 major · 43 moderate · 29 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ranitidine page
“Ranitidine (Zantac) is a heartburn and ulcer medicine gentle enough to have sold over the counter, but two of the 74 supplements and herbs on file with it earn real caution and are worth understanding first. Activated charcoal can soak up ranitidine in the gut and blunt the dose, and St.”

Where Dulse and Ranitidine Sit Against Everything Else
Out of every supplement and medication people look up on HelloPharmacist, here is where these two land this week — and which way each has been moving.

#1,372 of 2,830 medications looked up here in the last 7 days
Position among everything looked up on this site, not a measure of how commonly either one is used or how important it is. A supplement can climb this list because of a news story. It counts every request to the page, automated ones included, and nothing here identifies anyone.
Where does our data come from?
- Source: the Natural Medicines (TRC Healthcare) clinical database — the evidence-graded professional reference for herb & supplement interactions.
- Citation library: 103,510 references behind our interaction content, 65,311 of them resolved to verified PubMed/DOI sources. See every Dulse reference on this page ↓
- Freshness: we automatically re-check this combination every week — this pair was last verified September 20, 2026. The Dulse and Ranitidine records this page draws on were last updated June 22, 2026.
- What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.
About Dulse
What is Dulse?
- Nutritional supplement (iodine, minerals)
- Source of plant protein
- General wellness
- Anti-inflammatory support
- Thyroid/iodine support
Dulse is a red seaweed eaten as a food in many coastal cultures and is a natural source of iodine, potassium, protein, and antioxidant compounds. As a food it is generally considered safe for most people, but concentrated supplements can deliver large amounts of iodine and potassium, so use caution. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it medicinally, especially if you have thyroid or kidney problems.
Palmaria palmata · Palmariaceae · Whole edible thallus (the leafy seaweed fronds) · Dried flakes, whole dried leaf, powder, capsules, and as a food ingredient
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Dulse is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Dulse record says about it on its own.
Dulse: dosing
There is no established standardized medicinal dose for dulse. As a food it is eaten in small amounts as flakes, snacks, or a recipe ingredient. If you use a dulse supplement, follow the directions on the product label and do not exceed the recommended amount.

About Ranitidine
What Is Ranitidine Used For?
Brand names: Zantac 150 EFFER, Zantac 150 GEL, Zantac 150, Zantac Geldose, Zantac, Ranit, Zantac Efferdose, Zantac 300, Zantac 300 GEL, Ranitidine injection
Ranitidine treats a range of stomach acid–related conditions. Prescription-strength ranitidine (capsules, tablets, and oral solution) is used for active duodenal ulcers (ulcers in the small intestine), active benign gastric ulcers (stomach ulcers), GERD (acid reflux disease), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and pathological hypersecretory conditions — rare disorders where the stomach makes far too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is also used as maintenance therapy to keep duodenal and gastric ulcers from coming back after they have healed.
Over-the-counter products — including Acid Reducer and Acid Reducer 150 tablets — are approved to relieve heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach, and to prevent that heartburn when taken before eating or drinking foods that trigger it.

Ranitidine Is Linked to Lower Levels of 6 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Ranitidine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Dulse — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
