Dextroamphetamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Eleuthero interacts with.

Theoretically, eleuthero might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro and animal research suggest that standardized extracts of eleuthero might inhibit CYP2D6. However, research in healthy human volunteers has found that taking eleuthero 485 mg twice daily for 14 days does not inhibit CYP2D6 drug metabolism.

Here's the gist with Eleuthero and your dextroamphetamine. Part of how your body clears this stimulant runs through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. In test tube and animal studies, eleuthero looked like it might slow that enzyme down a little. If that happened, more of the drug could linger, which in theory means stronger stimulant effects like a faster heartbeat, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or a higher blood pressure.

The good news is that when researchers actually tested eleuthero in healthy people, it did not meaningfully block CYP2D6. So this is mostly a theoretical concern, rated minor and unlikely. Dextroamphetamine isn't a prodrug, so it doesn't flip the other way. Still, if you notice more racing heart or restlessness, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Dextroamphetamine Used For?

Brand name: Dexedrine

Dextroamphetamine treats two conditions: ADHD and narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness). It is available in multiple forms — tablets, extended-release capsules, oral solution, and a skin patch — and the approved age ranges vary by product.

Oral tablets (Zenzedi, generic) and oral solutions (Procentra, generic) are approved for ADHD in children as young as 3 years old and for narcolepsy. Extended-release capsules (Dexedrine, generic) are approved for ADHD in children ages 6 to 16 and for narcolepsy. Xelstrym, the transdermal patch, is approved only for ADHD — in adults and children ages 6 and older — and is not indicated for narcolepsy.
