Here's the idea behind this pairing. Emapalumab (Gamifant) is a monoclonal antibody that deliberately calms down an overactive immune system to treat HLH. Eleuthero, on the other hand, is traditionally thought to stimulate immune activity. In theory, those two are pulling in opposite directions, and a more revved-up immune system could work against the very effect this medication is trying to achieve.

I want to be honest about the strength of this concern though. It rests on lab and animal studies, not on people taking these two together, so it's theoretical. Still, because emapalumab treats a serious, hard-to-control condition, I wouldn't risk anything tugging against it. Please don't start eleuthero without first checking with your doctor or pharmacist who manages your HLH care.

What Is Emapalumab-lzsg Injection Used For?

Brand name: Gamifant

Gamifant is used to treat primary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) — a rare, life-threatening condition where the immune system becomes dangerously overactivated — in adults and children whose disease has not responded to, has come back during, or has progressed on standard HLH therapy, or who cannot tolerate it.

Gamifant is also used for HLH/macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) in adults and children with known or suspected Still's disease, including systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (sJIA), when glucocorticoids (steroid medicines) have not worked well enough, cannot be tolerated, or when MAS keeps coming back.
