Here's the simple version: indapamide is a water pill that already works to bring your blood pressure down. European barberry, which contains berberine, may have its own mild blood-pressure-lowering action. So when you pair the two, the concern is that they could push your pressure a little too low together. This isn't about barberry building up the drug in your body, it's about both nudging in the same direction.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, especially when standing up quickly, and you could feel tired or off-balance. I'll be honest though: this is a theoretical caution drawn from animal and early human data, not a strong, well-proven interaction. Still, if you take both, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on how you feel.

European barberry is a shrub whose root, bark, and berries contain berberine, a bitter plant alkaloid that has been studied mostly in isolated form. Some early research on berberine is promising for blood sugar and cholesterol, but high-quality evidence for the whole barberry herb is limited. What Is Indapamide Used For?

Brand names: Lozol, Lozide

Indapamide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), either on their own or together with other blood pressure medications. Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of related complications.

Indapamide tablets are also used to treat salt and fluid retention (edema) associated with congestive heart failure. In certain cases, indapamide may also be appropriate during pregnancy when swelling is caused by a medical condition rather than normal pregnancy changes — but routine use in otherwise healthy pregnant women is not recommended.
