Naloxegol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group False Unicorn interacts with.

In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. Drugs that might be affected include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.

Here's the gist for Movantik (naloxegol): your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break it down and clear it out. In lab tests (not in people), False Unicorn appears to slow that enzyme down. If that held true in the body, naloxegol could build up a bit higher than usual. Since this drug isn't a prodrug, more of it means a stronger effect, which could show up as belly cramping, diarrhea, or stomach pain.

That said, this is only test-tube evidence, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, I'd loop in your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two, and let them know right away if your stomach acts up.

What Is Naloxegol Used For?

Brand name: Movantik

Movantik (naloxegol) is used to treat opioid-induced constipation (OIC) — constipation caused by opioid pain medications — in adults who have chronic non-cancer pain. It is also approved for adults with chronic pain related to prior cancer or its treatment, as long as they don't need frequent (roughly weekly) increases in their opioid dose.

It is not indicated for constipation from other causes, and it is not approved for use in children.
