Budesonide, Formoterol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group German Chamomile interacts with.

Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP2D6 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP2D6. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 in patients taking German chamomile.

Here's the honest picture with Symbicort (budesonide plus formoterol) and chamomile tea. The concern on file is that chamomile may block an enzyme called CYP2D6, which could let drugs cleared by it build up a little. The thing is, this worry comes only from lab dish studies, not from real people, so it's very much theoretical.

On top of that, neither budesonide nor formoterol relies heavily on CYP2D6 (budesonide is mainly handled by a different enzyme, CYP3A4). So a meaningful interaction here is unlikely. If anything pushed formoterol levels up, you might notice a faster heartbeat, jitteriness, or shakiness, but that's not expected from chamomile tea. Enjoy your tea, and just mention it to your pharmacist if you use concentrated chamomile supplements.

But that's the key catch: budesonide is mainly handled by a different enzyme (CYP3A4), not CYP2C9, so this particular pathway isn't a strong match for your inhaler. On top of that, the evidence here comes only from lab dish studies, and nothing like this has been reported in real people.

So I wouldn't lose sleep over a cup of chamomile tea with Symbicort. If anything, just keep an eye out for the usual things like a fast heartbeat, jitteriness, or throat irritation, and check with your pharmacist if you use concentrated chamomile supplements.
