Donepezil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group German Chamomile interacts with.

Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP2D6 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP2D6. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 in patients taking German chamomile.

Here's the gist for your Aricept (donepezil). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 (along with another called 3A4) to help clear this drug from your body. German chamomile, in lab dish studies, has shown it might slow that CYP2D6 enzyme down a bit. If that happens, donepezil could build up slightly and lead to more of its usual side effects, things like nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, dizziness, muscle cramps, or a slower heart rate.

The important part: this is only theoretical, based on test-tube work, and it has never actually been reported in real people. An occasional cup of chamomile tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're using concentrated chamomile supplements regularly, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up so they can keep an eye on how you feel.

Here's the gist: your body clears donepezil using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies hint that German chamomile might slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in real life, donepezil could build up slightly and its effects (and side effects) could be a touch stronger.

With donepezil, that would mean more of the usual things to watch for: nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, dizziness, or a slower heartbeat. The honest part though is that this is only based on test-tube research and has not been seen in actual people. A cup of chamomile tea now and then is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're using concentrated chamomile capsules daily, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before deciding anything.
