Mestranol, Norethynodrel falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group German Chamomile interacts with.

Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking German chamomile.

Here's the deal with this older birth control pill (Enovid-E contains mestranol and norethynodrel). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break these hormones down. German chamomile, in lab dish studies only, has shown it might slow that same enzyme. In theory, slowing it could let your hormone levels run a little higher than expected, which might mean more of the usual hormone-related effects like nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, or spotting.

I want to be honest though: this has never actually been reported in real people, and a casual cup of chamomile tea is unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated supplement doses are more of a question mark. If you use chamomile regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

In vitro, German chamomile has demonstrated antiestrogenic activity. Theoretically, concomitant use of large amounts of German chamomile might interfere with contraceptive drugs through competition for estrogen receptors.

Enovid-E is an older combination birth control pill that pairs an estrogen (mestranol) with a progestin (norethynodrel). The concern here is pretty mild and mostly theoretical. In lab dishes, German chamomile has shown weak antiestrogen activity, meaning it might compete with estrogen at its receptors. On paper, that could slightly blunt how well the pill works to prevent pregnancy.

The important word is theoretical. This is based only on test-tube data, not real people, and a cup or two of chamomile tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're regularly taking concentrated chamomile capsules or extracts, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, especially since reliable contraception matters. Don't change anything on your own first.
