Why this applies to Mometasone

Mometasone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group German Chamomile interacts with.

Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking German chamomile.

Here's the gist for chamomile and mometasone. In lab dishes, chamomile seems to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the enzymes that helps break down mometasone. If that enzyme works slower, the theory is that more mometasone could hang around in your body and its effects could be stronger.

The good news: most folks use mometasone as a cream or ointment on the skin, where very little gets absorbed, so a cup of chamomile tea is very unlikely to cause any real problem. This concern is purely theoretical and has never actually been seen in people. If you use the inhaler (Asmanex) regularly or take concentrated chamomile supplements long-term, just mention it to your pharmacist so they can keep an eye on things.

Mometasone Furoate topical products are used to relieve the inflammation and itching (pruritus) that come with corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses — a broad category of skin conditions that respond to steroid treatment.

Mometasone Furoate Topical Solution (Lotion) is specifically indicated for these skin conditions in patients 12 years of age and older. Mometasone Furoate cream may be used in adults and in children 2 years of age and older.
