Ondansetron falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group German Chamomile interacts with.

Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP2D6 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP2D6. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 in patients taking German chamomile.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear ondansetron (Zofran). In lab tests, German chamomile appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, if chamomile blocks CYP2D6, a little more ondansetron could linger in your system. Ondansetron is the active drug itself, not a prodrug, so more of it means a slightly stronger effect and possibly more of its usual side effects, like headache, constipation, or feeling tired.

The reassuring part: this is only seen in test-tube studies and has not been reported in real people. A cup of chamomile tea now and then is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you use concentrated chamomile supplements regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

German chamomile is a widely used herbal remedy taken mainly as a tea for calming, sleep, and digestive complaints. Early research suggests possible benefits for mild anxiety and some skin or digestive issues, but the evidence is limited and most uses are based on tradition rather than strong proof. It is generally well tolerated, but people allergic to ragweed or related plants and those who are pregnant should be cautious.

About Ondansetron

What Is Ondansetron Used For?

Brand name: Zofran

Ondansetron is used to prevent nausea and vomiting in several situations. Oral forms (tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, and oral solution) are approved to prevent nausea and vomiting from highly or moderately emetogenic (nausea-causing) cancer chemotherapy, from radiation therapy to the abdomen or whole body, and from surgery.

Ondansetron injection (given intravenously or intramuscularly in a clinical setting) is approved to prevent nausea and vomiting from emetogenic cancer chemotherapy — including high-dose cisplatin — in adults and children as young as 6 months old, as well as to prevent postoperative nausea and vomiting.
