Bendamustine Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Ginkgo interacts with.

Theoretically, ginkgo might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Laboratory research suggests that ginkgo leaf extract can mildly inhibit CYP1A2 enzymes. However, clinical research suggests ginkgo might not affect CYP1A2. Until more is known, use ginkgo cautiously in patients taking drugs metabolized by these enzymes.

Here's the gist for bendamustine (Bendeka): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to help clear this chemo drug. Ginkgo, in lab studies, might mildly slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more bendamustine linger in your system, which might mean stronger effects and a higher chance of its usual side effects like low blood counts, nausea, fatigue, or fever from infection.

I want to be honest, though: this is mostly theoretical. Lab work hints at it, but actual studies in people suggest ginkgo may not meaningfully affect CYP1A2. Since bendamustine is a serious cancer treatment, and ginkgo can also thin the blood, please don't add it without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

What Is Bendamustine Injection Used For?

Brand name: Bendeka

Bendamustine hydrochloride injection is used to treat adults with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). It is also used for adults with indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) — a slow-growing type of blood cancer — when the disease has continued to progress during or within six months of treatment with rituximab or a rituximab-containing regimen.

For CLL, how well bendamustine works compared to other first-line treatments (aside from chlorambucil) has not been fully established.
