Here's the thing to know about pairing guar gum with aliskiren (Tekturna). Guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and that gel can trap some pills in your gut and slow or block how much gets absorbed. Aliskiren is already a tricky drug to absorb (only a small fraction normally makes it into your bloodstream), so adding a fiber that grabs onto it could leave you with even less active medicine.

In practice, that might mean your blood pressure isn't controlled as well as it should be. This isn't a dangerous reaction, just a possible drop in effectiveness. A simple fix usually does the trick: take your aliskiren first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum. Run the timing past your pharmacist or doctor to be sure it fits your routine.

Aliskiren and Tekturna tablets are both approved to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children who are at least 6 years old and weigh 50 kg (about 110 lbs) or more. Lowering high blood pressure reduces the risk of serious events like strokes and heart attacks.
