Here's the gist for this combination pill (aspirin, codeine, and phenobarbital): guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber. When you swallow it close to your medicine, that gel can grab onto the pills and slow or lessen how much your body actually absorbs. The concern isn't a dangerous chemical reaction, it's simply that you may get less of each drug into your system.

In practice, that could mean weaker pain relief from the aspirin and codeine, or less steady control if you take phenobarbital regularly for seizures. The easy fix is timing: take your medication first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum. Food-level fiber is unlikely to matter much, but concentrated supplements can. Please run your routine by your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
