Here's the thing with guar gum and dextrothyroxine (Choloxin), which is a thyroid hormone medicine. Guar gum is a gel-forming fiber, and once it hits your stomach it thickens into a gel that can grab onto medicines and slow how much your body soaks up. With dextrothyroxine, that could mean less of your dose actually gets absorbed, so you may not get the full benefit. Over time, an under-absorbed thyroid medicine can leave you feeling sluggish, cold, tired, or constipated.

Thyroid medicines are sensitive to small changes in absorption, so timing matters. A simple fix is spacing them out, taking your guar gum 30 to 60 minutes after your dextrothyroxine. Please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
