Here's the thing to keep in mind with guar gum and trimipramine: that thick fiber gel can grab onto your medicine in the gut and slow or reduce how much gets absorbed. Trimipramine isn't a prodrug, so less absorption simply means you may get less of the drug into your system. Over time, that could weaken how well it controls your depression, and you might not feel the steady benefit you're used to.

The good news is this is easy to manage. Spacing them out helps a lot. Take your trimipramine first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum supplement. Food amounts of guar gum are unlikely to be a problem. Before changing anything, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Trimipramine Used For?

Brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp

Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.

In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.
