Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the piece to focus on with Damason-P: the aspirin part already thins your blood a bit by keeping platelets from clumping together. Lab studies suggest honeysuckle's plant compounds may do something similar. So the concern is that the two together could nudge up your bleeding risk, on top of what aspirin alone does.

In real life that could look like easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or a cut that's slow to stop. Honestly, though, this is only seen in test-tube research, not in people, so the actual risk is probably low, especially with an occasional cup of honeysuckle tea. If you take this medicine regularly or have any bleeding worries, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Honeysuckle

What is Honeysuckle?

  • Colds and sore throat
  • Fever
  • Inflammation
  • Skin rashes and sores
  • Digestive upset

Honeysuckle, especially Japanese honeysuckle flower (Lonicera japonica), is a staple of traditional Chinese medicine used mainly for colds, sore throat, and inflammation. Modern human evidence for these uses is limited, so it should be seen as a traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. It is generally well tolerated as a tea, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking other medicines.
