Brexpiprazole falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Iboga interacts with.

Theoretically, taking iboga with serotonergic drugs might increase levels of serotonin, resulting in additive effects with serotonergic drugs.
Ibogaine, a constituent in iboga, has serotonergic effects. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with iboga might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders. Monitor patients for signs of serotonin syndrome and other serotonergic side effects if using iboga with serotonergic drugs.

Here's the basic idea: Iboga (and its main compound, ibogaine) can nudge up serotonin activity in the brain. Brexpiprazole, your Rexulti, also touches the serotonin system as part of how it works. Put the two together and, in theory, you could stack too much serotonin signaling on top of each other.

What that might look like in real life is serotonin syndrome: agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or confusion. I want to be straight with you though, this concern is theoretical, based on how the two act in the body, not on real cases. Honestly, the bigger worry is that ibogaine itself carries serious heart rhythm risks and isn't legal here. Please don't combine these, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist first.

About Brexpiprazole

What Is Brexpiprazole Used For?

Brand name: Rexulti

Brexpiprazole tablets are approved for two uses in adults: as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment alongside antidepressants for major depressive disorder (MDD), and as a treatment for schizophrenia. These uses apply to both the generic brexpiprazole tablets and Rexulti.

Rexulti has one additional approved use: treating agitation associated with dementia due to Alzheimer's disease in adults. Rexulti is also approved for schizophrenia in adolescents ages 13 and older. Note that Rexulti is not approved for dementia-related psychosis without agitation from Alzheimer's disease, and it is not meant to be used on an as-needed basis for Alzheimer's-related agitation.
