Buproprion, Dextromethorphan falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Iboga interacts with.

Theoretically, taking iboga with serotonergic drugs might increase levels of serotonin, resulting in additive effects with serotonergic drugs.
Ibogaine, a constituent in iboga, has serotonergic effects. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with iboga might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders. Monitor patients for signs of serotonin syndrome and other serotonergic side effects if using iboga with serotonergic drugs.

Auvelity combines bupropion with dextromethorphan, and one reason it works as an antidepressant is that dextromethorphan nudges serotonin and other brain chemicals. Iboga (through its compound ibogaine) also pushes on serotonin. Stack the two together and you could pile up too much serotonin activity. That can lead to a condition called serotonin syndrome, with symptoms like agitation, sweating, a racing heart, shivering, tremor, or confusion.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it is theoretical, based on how these substances behave rather than real reports with this combo. Still, ibogaine carries its own serious heart-rhythm and safety risks, so this is not a pairing to experiment with. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing them.

Buproprion, Dextromethorphan also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) INHIBITORS.

Theoretically, taking iboga with CYP2D6 inhibitors might increase the levels and clinical effects of ibogaine.
Ibogaine, the active constituent of iboga, is a substrate of CYP2D6. One pharmacokinetic study shows that taking the CYP2D6 inhibitor paroxetine prior to taking ibogaine 20 mg increases the exposure to ibogaine and its metabolite noribogaine by 2-fold when compared with ibogaine alone.

Here's the key thing with Auvelity (the bupropion plus dextromethorphan combo): the bupropion piece is actually a strong blocker of a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Iboga's active compound, ibogaine, is broken down by that very same enzyme. So if you took them together, the bupropion would slow ibogaine's breakdown, letting ibogaine and its byproduct build up to roughly double the usual levels in one small study. That matters because ibogaine can trigger dangerous heart rhythm problems on its own, and more of it raises that risk.

Honestly, this is largely theoretical and based on limited data, but the bigger point is that ibogaine itself is illegal in the U.S. and genuinely risky. I wouldn't combine these. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist with any questions.
