Here's the concern with pairing Iboga and your seizure medicine, Felbamate. This isn't about one drug speeding up or slowing down the other in your liver. Instead, it's about the heart's electrical rhythm. Ibogaine, the active compound in Iboga, has been linked in real-world case reports to a problem called QT prolongation, where the heart takes a little too long to reset between beats. That can rarely trigger dangerous, irregular heartbeats.

Felbamate sits in a group of medicines that may carry a similar risk, so stacking the two could, in theory, add up. I'll be honest: this is based on scattered case reports, not strong studies. But Iboga carries serious heart risks on its own and is illegal in the U.S. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing anything with Felbamate.

Iboga is a Central African shrub whose root bark contains ibogaine, a powerful hallucinogenic compound studied mainly for addiction. It carries serious safety risks, including dangerous heart rhythm changes and deaths, and ibogaine is illegal in the United States and many other countries. We do not recommend its use outside of tightly controlled research settings.

About Felbamate

What Is Felbamate Used For?

Brand name: Felbatol

Felbamate is not a first-line seizure medication. It is used only when a person's epilepsy has not responded well enough to other treatments and the seizures are severe enough that the serious risks of this drug are considered acceptable.

In adults, felbamate can be used alone or alongside other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) to treat partial seizures (seizures that start in one part of the brain), with or without spreading to become a full seizure. In children, felbamate is used as an add-on treatment for both partial and generalized seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of childhood epilepsy. Felbatol is specifically labeled for these uses in both adults and children.
