Sodium valproate falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Iboga interacts with.

Theoretically, taking iboga with serotonergic drugs might increase levels of serotonin, resulting in additive effects with serotonergic drugs.
Ibogaine, a constituent in iboga, has serotonergic effects. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with iboga might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders. Monitor patients for signs of serotonin syndrome and other serotonergic side effects if using iboga with serotonergic drugs.

Here's the honest picture for sodium valproate (Epilim). The concern on file is that ibogaine, the active compound in iboga, nudges serotonin levels up. When that's stacked on top of other drugs that raise serotonin, the worry is too much serotonin activity, which can show up as agitation, a racing heart, sweating, tremor, or confusion (what's called serotonin syndrome).

I'll be straight with you though: valproate isn't really a classic serotonin drug, and this caution is theoretical, drawn from pharmacology rather than real cases. The bigger issue is iboga itself, which can trigger dangerous heart rhythms and has caused deaths. It's illegal in the U.S. and shouldn't be used outside research. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything with your valproate.
