Hydrochlorothiazide, Quinapril falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Indian Cassia interacts with.

Theoretically, Indian cassia might increase the risk of potassium depletion in patients taking diuretic drugs. However, this has not been shown in humans. Indian cassia leaf extract 200-400 mg/kg body weight has shown mild diuretic activity in animal research. The effect of Indian cassia on urine volume and electrolyte loss was similar to that of furosemide. Until more is known, use with caution.

Your Accuretic combines two blood pressure medicines: hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill) and quinapril (an ACE inhibitor). Here's the wrinkle worth knowing. The thiazide part already tends to flush out potassium, while quinapril pushes potassium the other way (it tends to hold onto it). So the two ingredients partly balance each other.

In animal studies, Indian cassia acted a little like a water pill itself, which in theory could add to potassium loss. But honestly, this has never been shown in people, and the amount you'd get from cooking is tiny. As a kitchen spice, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. If you're using concentrated cassia extracts or oils, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your potassium.
