Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Effient
Effient falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Japanese Persimmon interacts with.
Some anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, indomethacin (Indocin), ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version when it comes to Effient (prasugrel) and Japanese persimmon. Effient already works hard to keep your platelets from clumping together, which is exactly how it protects your heart after a stent or heart attack. The concern is that concentrated persimmon leaf extracts may have a mild blood-thinning effect of their own. Stack the two, and in theory you could bleed or bruise a little more easily, with longer-lasting cuts or nosebleeds.
I want to be honest, though: this is only a theoretical worry based on lab studies, never shown in real people. And eating the persimmon fruit as a snack is unlikely to matter. Just loop in your pharmacist or doctor before using persimmon leaf products or extracts.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Effient page
“Effient (prasugrel) keeps platelets from forming clots, usually after a stent or a heart attack, and I would not pair supplements with it casually. Roughly 200 ingredients on this list can thin the blood further and raise bleeding risk, including two of the five rated major.”

About Japanese Persimmon
What is Japanese Persimmon?
- High blood pressure
- Cough and hiccups (traditional use)
- Antioxidant support
- Digestive health and fiber
- Skin and general wellness
Japanese persimmon is a nutritious fruit rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidant plant compounds, and its leaves and calyx are used in traditional medicine. While eating the fruit as food is generally safe and healthy, the evidence for concentrated supplements or leaf extracts treating specific conditions is limited. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using persimmon products medicinally.
About Prasugrel
What Is Prasugrel Used For?
Brand name: Prasugrel
Prasugrel tablets (brand names Effient and Prasugrel) are used to lower the risk of dangerous blood clots — including clots that can block a stent — in people with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), which includes unstable angina (chest pain at rest) and heart attacks (both NSTEMI and STEMI types). It is used specifically in patients who are being treated with a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), in which a catheter is used to open a blocked coronary artery, often with a stent.
Effient has been shown to reduce the combined rate of cardiovascular death, nonfatal heart attack, or nonfatal stroke compared to clopidogrel — with the benefit driven mainly by fewer heart attacks.
