ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Quinethazone, Reserpine
Quinethazone, Reserpine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Japanese Persimmon interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Your Hydromox R combines two blood-pressure-lowering medicines: quinethazone, a water pill, and reserpine, which relaxes blood vessels. Neither one needs to be 'activated' by the body to work, so this isn't a prodrug situation. The concern here is simply additive: Japanese persimmon may gently lower blood pressure on its own, and stacking that on top of two medicines already pushing your pressure down could push it a little too far.
If that happens, you might notice dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand up, tiredness, or feeling faint. Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical and based on limited research, and eating a persimmon or two as a snack is unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated leaf extracts or persimmon supplements are the bigger question. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding those.
