Why this applies to Anagrelide

Anagrelide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Kratom interacts with.

Theoretically, kratom might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research suggests that kratom extract inhibits the activity of CYP1A2. In one case report, a 63-year-old male presented with possible serotonin syndrome after taking an unknown dose of kratom for up to 3 months along with serotonergic prescription medications bupropion, buspirone, desvenlafaxine, trazodone, and ziprasidone. It was hypothesized that kratom inhibited CYP1A2-mediaed metabolism of ziprasidone which consequently increased systemic exposure to serotonin.

Here's the gist for anagrelide: your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to break this medicine down. Kratom may block that same enzyme, at least based on lab studies. If that blocking happens in real life, anagrelide could clear more slowly and build up in your system, making its effects stronger than expected.

With anagrelide, more drug in the body can mean more headache, a pounding or racing heartbeat, fluid retention or swelling, dizziness, and stomach upset. Keep in mind this concern is theoretical, coming from test-tube data rather than people taking these two together. Still, kratom has its own real risks, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your anagrelide on your own.

What Is Anagrelide Used For?

Brand name: Agrylin

Anagrelide — sold as Agrylin and as generic anagrelide capsules — is used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms. That means it's prescribed when a bone marrow disorder causes the body to produce too many platelets, raising the risk of dangerous blood clots.

By bringing platelet counts down to a safer range, anagrelide also helps reduce related symptoms, including bleeding and clotting events (thrombo-hemorrhagic events).
