Clonidine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group L-arginine interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine and antihypertensive drugs may increase the risk of hypotension.
L-arginine increases nitric oxide, which causes vasodilation. Clinical evidence shows that L-arginine can reduce blood pressure in some individuals with hypertension. Furthermore, combining L-arginine with some antihypertensive drugs seems to have additive vasodilating and blood pressure-lowering effects.

Here's the simple version: clonidine already works to bring your blood pressure down by relaxing your blood vessels and slowing your heart rate. L-arginine pushes in the same direction because your body turns it into nitric oxide, which also widens blood vessels. Stack the two and the blood-pressure-lowering effects can add up.

For some people that could mean too low a blood pressure, with dizziness, lightheadedness, feeling tired, or even feeling faint when you stand up. I want to be honest, though: this is a theoretical concern based on how both work, not a heavily documented problem. It's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding L-arginine, especially if you notice these symptoms.

L-arginine is an amino acid that the body uses to make nitric oxide, a substance that helps blood vessels relax and widen. It is popularly used for blood pressure, erectile dysfunction, and exercise, but the evidence is mixed and stronger for some uses than others. It is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have heart problems or take other medicines.

About Clonidine

What Is Clonidine Used For?

Brand name: Catapres

Clonidine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Several products — including Clonidine Hydrochloride tablets, Javadin oral solution, Nexiclon XR extended-release tablets, and Catapres-TTS skin patches — are approved for this use, either alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.

Extended-release formulations — including Onyda XR oral suspension and clonidine hydrochloride extended-release tablets (such as Kapvay) — are approved to treat ADHD in children and teenagers ages 6 to 17, either on their own or alongside stimulant medications. Separately, clonidine injection products (Duraclon and others) are used alongside opioid pain medicines to treat severe cancer pain that opioids alone cannot control adequately.
