Verapamil falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group L-citrulline interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of L-citrulline with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the chance of hypotension.
L-citrulline is converted to L-arginine, which can increase nitric oxide and cause vasodilation. However, a meta-analysis of 5 small clinical studies suggests that taking L-citrulline 3-6 grams daily for 1-8 weeks does not lower blood pressure when compared with control.

Here's the simple version: verapamil already relaxes your blood vessels and slows your heart rate to bring blood pressure down. L-citrulline turns into L-arginine in your body, which makes nitric oxide, another thing that widens blood vessels. Stack the two and, in theory, you could push your blood pressure a little lower than intended.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or flushed, especially when you stand up quickly. The good news is the evidence here is on the weaker side. A pooled look at several small studies didn't actually show L-citrulline lowering blood pressure much. So this is more of a 'keep an eye on it' situation than a red alert. If you'd like to try it, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and watch how you feel.

What Is Verapamil Used For?

Brand names: Isoptin SR, Verelan, Isoptin, Calan SR, Verelan SR, Calan, Covera HS, Verap, Veramil

Verapamil tablets and film-coated tablets are used to treat angina — including vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina, unstable angina, and chronic stable angina — as well as certain abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and high blood pressure (essential hypertension). For arrhythmias, regular-release tablets are used alongside digoxin to control heart rate in atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation, and to help prevent episodes of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), a type of rapid heartbeat.

Extended-release and sustained-release oral forms (tablets and capsules) are indicated specifically for high blood pressure. Verapamil hydrochloride injection is used in hospital settings for rapid conversion of SVT to normal rhythm and for temporary control of fast heart rates in atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation.
