Larch Arabinogalactan and Fluorouracil (IV)

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS

Why this applies to Fluorouracil (IV)

Fluorouracil (IV) falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Larch Arabinogalactan interacts with.

Theoretically, larch arabinogalactan might interfere with immunosuppression therapy due to immunostimulant effects. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and other drugs.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the basic idea with this pairing. Larch arabinogalactan is a fiber that may gently nudge the immune system to be more active. Fluorouracil (5-FU) is a chemotherapy medicine that, among other things, lowers immune activity. So in theory, a supplement that revs up immunity could work against what your treatment is trying to do. I want to be honest though: this concern is theoretical, based on how things might behave, not on real studies in people taking 5-FU. We simply don't have proof it actually causes a problem.

Because chemotherapy is serious business and the timing matters, I'd hold off on adding this supplement until you check with your oncology team. They know your exact regimen and can give you the safest answer. Please don't change any of your cancer treatment on your own.
