Lemon Verbena and Defibrotide Sodium

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Defibrotide Sodium and Lemon Verbena in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Lemon Verbena safety at a glance

Lemon Verbena overall Use caution Generally well tolerated as a tea or food, but concentrated extracts and the essential oil are less studied.
Pregnancy Avoid Not enough safety data, so it is best avoided in medicinal amounts during pregnancy.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Defibrotide Sodium

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Defibrotide Sodium is filed under a single classification — anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs. Lemon Verbena has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being benzodiazepines (moderate) — and none of Defibrotide Sodium’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Lemon Verbena — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Defibrotide Sodium’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Defibrotide Sodium column appears here.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Defibrotide Sodium page

“Defibrotide (Defitelio) is an intravenous drug for severe veno-occlusive disease of the liver after a stem cell transplant, and part of how it works is by reducing the blood's tendency to clot. That makes bleeding the single thread running through this entire list, and it deserves real care.”

About Lemon Verbena

What is Lemon Verbena?

Lemon Verbena
  • Digestive upset
  • Anxiety and trouble sleeping
  • Joint pain and inflammation
  • Exercise recovery and oxidative stress
  • Weight management
  • Flavoring and aromatherapy

Lemon verbena is a fragrant South American herb most often enjoyed as a tea or flavoring, and it contains polyphenols like verbascoside that have antioxidant activity in lab studies. Some small studies hint at benefits for inflammation, exercise recovery, and appetite, but the human evidence is limited and far from proven. It is generally well tolerated as a food and tea, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Aloysia citrodora · Verbenaceae · Leaves and flowering tops; the essential oil is also used · Tea, capsules, liquid extracts, essential oil, and as a flavoring in foods and beverages

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Lemon Verbena is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Lemon Verbena record says about it on its own.

Lemon Verbena: dosing

There is no official or well-established standardized dose for lemon verbena. As a tea, it is commonly prepared by steeping the dried leaves in hot water, similar to other herbal teas. For capsules and extracts, products vary widely and some are standardized to a certain percentage of polyphenols or verbascoside. More is not always better, and starting with the lowest amount is a sensible approach.
