Crizotinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lemongrass interacts with.

Theoretically, lemongrass might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral inhibit CYP3A4.

Here's the basic idea: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down and clear crizotinib (Xalkori). Lab and animal studies suggest that lemongrass, mostly through a compound called citral, can slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in people, crizotinib could clear out more slowly and build up in your system, which may mean stronger effects and more side effects like nausea, vision changes, fatigue, swelling, or changes in liver and heart (QT) tests.

I want to be honest about the strength here: this is theoretical and based only on lab and animal work, not human studies. The small amounts in cooking or an occasional cup of lemongrass tea are unlikely to be a problem. Concentrated supplements or the essential oil are where I'd pause. Since crizotinib is a serious cancer medicine, please run any lemongrass supplement by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

About Crizotinib

What Is Crizotinib Used For?

Brand name: Xalkori

Xalkori (crizotinib) is used to treat adult patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors test positive for the ALK or ROS1 gene abnormality, as confirmed by an FDA-approved test.

Xalkori is also used to treat pediatric patients aged 1 year and older and young adults with relapsed or refractory systemic ALK-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). Additionally, it treats adult and pediatric patients aged 1 year and older with unresectable, recurrent, or refractory ALK-positive inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT). Note: Xalkori's safety and effectiveness in older adults with relapsed or refractory ALK-positive ALCL have not been established.
