Salmeterol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lemongrass interacts with.

Theoretically, lemongrass might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the gist for Salmeterol (Serevent). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this medication. Lemongrass, and especially its lemony compound citral, may block that enzyme a little. If that happens, salmeterol could linger longer and build up, which might nudge up its typical side effects like a fast or pounding heartbeat, shakiness or tremor, jitteriness, headache, or muscle cramps.

I'd keep this in perspective, though. This concern comes only from lab and animal studies, not real human cases, and the herb amount in food or a cup of tea is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplements or the essential oil are the bigger question mark. If you're using those regularly, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Salmeterol Oral Inhalation

What Is Salmeterol Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand name: Serevent

Serevent Diskus (salmeterol inhalation powder) is used for three main purposes: treating asthma in patients aged 4 and older alongside an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS), preventing exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB) in patients aged 4 and older, and providing long-term maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with COPD — including chronic bronchitis and emphysema — in adults.

Important: Serevent Diskus is not a rescue inhaler. It will not relieve a sudden asthma or COPD attack. For asthma, it must always be used together with an inhaled corticosteroid — using it alone for asthma is contraindicated due to a serious risk of asthma-related death.
