These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Lemongrass interacts with whole categories of medication. Simvastatin, Sitagliptin falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Lemongrass in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Simvastatin, Sitagliptin
Simvastatin, Sitagliptin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lemongrass interacts with.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral inhibit CYP3A4.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Juvisync combines two medicines: simvastatin (a cholesterol drug) and sitagliptin (a diabetes drug). The part that matters here is simvastatin, which your body clears using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab and animal studies hint that lemongrass, and its lemony compound citral, may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, simvastatin could build up a bit and raise the odds of side effects like muscle aches, weakness, or, rarely, more serious muscle problems.
Here's the reassuring part: this is only a theoretical concern based on animal data, not solid human studies. The lemongrass in a cup of tea or your cooking is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated supplements or the essential oil are a bigger question mark, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before using those.

GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS
2 of 2Simvastatin, Sitagliptin also falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral induce uridine diphosphoglucuronosyl transferase (UGT), the major phase 2 enzyme that is responsible for glucuronidation.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Juvisync combines two medicines: simvastatin (a cholesterol-lowering statin) and sitagliptin (a blood sugar pill). The idea here is that lemongrass, and especially its compound citral, may speed up a phase 2 process called glucuronidation, which is one of the ways your body packages up and clears certain drugs. If that happens, the drugs could leave your system a little faster and work a bit less.
Here's my honest take: this is based only on lab and animal research, not real human cases, so it's theoretical. The lemongrass in cooking or an occasional cup of tea is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplements or the essential oil are the bigger question mark. If you use those regularly, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your cholesterol and blood sugar numbers.

“Juvisync pairs simvastatin for cholesterol with sitagliptin for type 2 diabetes, and that combination carries 362 supplement interactions on file, eight rated major, so read this page with real care rather than a quick skim. Grapefruit stands out as the everyday hazard; it blocks the enzyme that clears simvastatin, raising statin level…”
