Marjoram and Glipizide

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Glipizide and Marjoram in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Marjoram safety at a glance

Marjoram overall Use caution Generally safe as a food, but concentrated extracts and essential oils have limited human safety data.
Pregnancy Possibly Unsafe When used in medicinal amounts; marjoram has the potential for stimulating menstruation. Avoid amounts greater than those found in foods. Read the full pregnancy detail
Breastfeeding Use caution Food amounts are likely fine, but avoid medicinal doses since safety is not established.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Glipizide

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Glipizide is filed under 6 classifications — including sulfonylureas, antidiabetes drugs, cytochrome p450 2c9 (cyp2c9) substrates. Marjoram has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being anticholinergic drugs (moderate), anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate) and cholinergic drugs (moderate) — and none of Glipizide’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Marjoram Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Glipizide. It is the side-effect record for Marjoram on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Marjoram, this list is the first place to look.

“Possible allergic contact dermatitis in children with pre-existing childhood atopic eczema was observed in a randomized clinical trial employing extended use of essential oils, including sweet marjoram essential oil. A case report describes a 38-year old woman who had an exacerbation of perioral dermatitis after eating food seasoned with marjoram.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Marjoram — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Glipizide’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Glipizide column appears here.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Glipizide page

“Glipizide (Glucotrol, Glucotrol XL) lowers blood sugar by prompting the pancreas to release more insulin, and that same power is why I read its supplement list with real seriousness. Of the 307 ingredients on file, 239 also act on blood glucose, so stacking them can drive sugar dangerously low.”
