Naproxen falls under Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs — the group Mullein interacts with.

Lab tests on extracts from different parts of common and dense-flowered mullein plants show that they do have some blood-thinning effects, as they increase the time it takes for blood to clot. This is likely due to at least one of the known constituents of muellein, triterpenoid saponins. However, the effects appear to be mild and results have been inconsistent. Extracts from different plant parts have been show to have varying anticoagulant strengths, with water-based ones being more potent than alcohol-based extracts.

Here's the simple version. Naproxen is an anti-inflammatory pain reliever, but like all NSAIDs it also makes your platelets a little less sticky, so it has a mild blood-thinning side effect of its own. Mullein has shown some weak blood-thinning activity too, but only in lab dish studies, not in people. Stacked together, the theory is that bleeding risk could tick up slightly.

In real life, this is rated minor and unlikely. A cup or two of mullein tea for a cough probably won't cause trouble. Still, watch for the usual naproxen warning signs like easy bruising, stomach upset, dark stools, or bleeding that's slow to stop. If you take naproxen often or also use a blood thinner, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Naproxen Used For?

Brand names: Naprosyn, Naprelan, Anaprox, Anaprox DS, Naproxyn, Navalbine, Naproxen, Naprosyn EC, Napro-Na, Aleve, Arthroxen, Synflex, EC-Naprosyn

Naproxen tablets, naproxen sodium tablets, and naproxen oral suspension are used to relieve the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis. They are also used for tendonitis, bursitis, and acute gout, and for managing pain and primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).

Naproxen Sodium Controlled-Release Tablets are indicated for the same conditions plus the relief of mild to moderate pain. Several over-the-counter naproxen sodium products are indicated for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains from headache, backache, muscular aches, toothache, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever.
