Mullein + Warfarin Sodium
Warfarin Sodium brand names: Coumadin, Panwarfin, Sofarin.
Mullein has a minor interaction with Warfarin Sodium. Lab tests on extracts from different parts of common and dense-flowered mullein plants show that they do have some blood-thinning effects, as they increase the time it takes for blood to clot.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Why this applies to Warfarin Sodium
Warfarin Sodium falls under Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs — the group Mullein interacts with.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the picture with mullein and your warfarin (Coumadin). In lab dishes, certain compounds in mullein (mostly triterpenoid saponins) slowed how fast blood clots. Since warfarin is already a blood thinner, the worry is that the two could add up and thin your blood a little more than intended. In theory that could nudge you toward easier bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that's slow to stop.
The honest part: this effect looks mild and the test-tube results were inconsistent, so it's unlikely to cause real trouble for most people. But warfarin is a narrow-margin drug, where even small shifts can change your INR. Because of that, please don't start or stop mullein on your own. Check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep up with your regular INR checks if you do use it.

About Mullein
What is Mullein?
- Cough and chest congestion
- Sore throat
- Bronchitis and respiratory irritation
- Earache (traditional ear oil)
- Mild inflammation
Mullein is a traditional herbal remedy most often used as a tea or syrup to soothe coughs, sore throats, and respiratory irritation. High-quality human studies are lacking, so its benefits are not well proven, but it is generally considered low-risk for short-term use in healthy adults. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a medical condition.
About Warfarin
What Is Warfarin Used For?
Brand names: Coumadin, Panwarfin, Sofarin
Warfarin helps prevent and treat harmful blood clots. The label lists these uses for both Warfarin Sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets:
- Preventing and treating venous thrombosis (clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (clots in the lungs).
- Preventing and treating clot-related complications of atrial fibrillation and/or heart valve replacement.
- Lowering the risk of death, another heart attack, and clot-related events such as stroke after a heart attack.
Warfarin does not dissolve a clot that has already formed. It helps stop the clot from growing and prevents further clot-related complications.
