Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Semaglutide
Semaglutide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Oats interacts with.
Consuming oats can decrease blood glucose in patients with diabetes. In those who require insulin, taking oats 100 grams daily for 2 days reduces the insulin dose required to achieve metabolic control.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: oats and semaglutide both nudge your blood sugar downward. Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus) helps your pancreas release insulin and slows how fast your stomach empties. The soluble fiber in oats, called beta-glucan, also softens blood sugar spikes after meals. Stack the two and, in theory, your numbers could drop a little lower than expected.
To be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on how these things work, not strong real-world studies. For most people, a bowl of oatmeal is a healthy choice and won't cause trouble. The bigger picture is just being alert for low blood sugar signs like shakiness, sweating, or dizziness, especially if you also use insulin. Keep an eye on your readings and check with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. From our pharmacist’s overview on the Semaglutide page
“Semaglutide (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy) lowers blood sugar, and so do most of the 256 supplements on this page, which is why I read this list with real vigilance rather than a shrug. Nearly all of the entries either add to its glucose-lowering effect and raise the risk of hypoglycemia, or push sugar the other way and blunt it, as niaci…”

About Oats
What is Oats?
- Lowering cholesterol
- Heart and digestive health
- Soothing itchy or irritated skin
- Blood sugar support
- Anxiety and stress (oat straw, traditional)
Oats are a well-studied whole grain whose soluble fiber (beta-glucan) can help lower cholesterol and support heart health when eaten regularly. As a food, oats are safe for most people, and colloidal oatmeal is widely used to soothe skin. Evidence for oat straw supplements (for anxiety, energy, or focus) is much weaker.
About Semaglutide
What Is Semaglutide Used For?
Brand names: Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy
Semaglutide is used for several conditions, depending on the product. Wegovy is used with a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity to reduce excess body weight and keep it off long term. It is also used to lower the risk of major cardiovascular events (heart-related death, non-fatal heart attack, or non-fatal stroke) in adults with established cardiovascular disease and either obesity or overweight.
Wegovy injection is also used for adults with noncirrhotic MASH (a fatty liver disease) with moderate to advanced liver scarring, and for weight management in children 12 and older with obesity. Ozempic is an injection used with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It also lowers the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease. Ozempic is not for type 1 diabetes.

Semaglutide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Semaglutide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Oats — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
