Here's the gist with saxagliptin (Onglyza) and oregano. Saxagliptin already works to gently lower your blood sugar after meals. Some lab and animal studies hint that concentrated oregano extracts may also nudge blood sugar down a bit. Stack the two together and, in theory, your sugar could drop a little lower than expected, which is what we call hypoglycemia.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based only on test-tube and animal work, not on people. The oregano you sprinkle on pizza or pasta is not going to cause trouble. The question really comes up with strong oregano oil capsules taken daily. If you use those, just watch for shakiness, sweating, or feeling lightheaded, and check in with your pharmacist or doctor before adding them.

Saxagliptin tablets are used to help adults with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels. It is meant to be used together with diet and exercise, either alone or alongside other diabetes medicines.

Saxagliptin tablets are not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous complication where the blood becomes too acidic).
