Selumetinib Sulfate falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Pau D'arco interacts with.

Theoretically, pau d'arco might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that pau d'arco reduces platelet aggregation and may interfere with vitamin K. One clinical study shows that taking the lapachol constituent of pau d'arco in doses above 1.5 grams daily increases the risk of bleeding. The effects of whole pau d'arco or pau d'arco extract in humans are unclear.

Here's the thing to know about pairing pau d'arco with selumetinib (Koselugo). The concern on file is really about bleeding. In lab studies, pau d'arco can make platelets a little less sticky and may nudge against vitamin K, both of which can tip you toward easier bleeding or bruising. Selumetinib itself can sometimes lower blood counts and cause bleeding-type side effects, so stacking something that may add to that risk isn't ideal.

I'll be honest, this is a theoretical caution based on how these compounds behave, not solid human proof, and food-style amounts are unlikely to matter. But since your child is on a serious cancer-type therapy, please run any pau d'arco supplement past your oncology team or pharmacist first.

What Is Selumetinib Used For?

Brand name: Koselugo

Koselugo (selumetinib) is approved for adults and children 1 year of age and older who have neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) — a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerve tissue — when they also have symptomatic, inoperable plexiform neurofibromas (large, deep nerve tumors that cannot be surgically removed and are causing problems).

Both the Koselugo capsule and Koselugo oral granule formulations are approved for this use. The oral granule form is intended for patients who have difficulty swallowing whole capsules.
