Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Lesinurad, Allopurinol
Lesinurad, Allopurinol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Phellodendron interacts with.
Phellodendron contains berberine. Preliminary clinical research shows that berberine can inhibit CYP2C9. Theoretically, phellodendron might also inhibit CYP2C9.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Let's talk about Duzallo, which is a combo pill containing lesinurad and allopurinol for gout. The lesinurad part is handled mainly by an enzyme in your liver called CYP2C9. Phellodendron contains berberine, which lab and early human studies suggest may slow that enzyme down. If lesinurad clears more slowly, levels could creep up, and that's worth watching because lesinurad on its own can stress the kidneys, especially without enough fluids.
I want to be honest here: this is theoretical, based on how the chemistry looks, not proven cases. So don't panic. But since gout drugs work best at steady levels, it's a good idea to mention any phellodendron product to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, rather than guessing on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lesinurad, Allopurinol page
“Kidney-harming herbs are the sharpest hazard on this page. Siberian cocklebur and asarabacca (often contaminated with aristolochic acid) both carry major ratings, and that matters because lesinurad, half of the Duzallo combination for gout, comes with its own kidney injury warning.”

About Phellodendron
What is Phellodendron?
- Digestive complaints and diarrhea
- Inflammation and joint discomfort
- Stress and weight management (in combination products)
- Skin conditions (topical, traditional)
- Antimicrobial support
Phellodendron is a traditional Chinese medicine bark (Huang Bai) that contains berberine and other plant compounds with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity in lab studies. Human evidence for most uses is limited, and it is often sold in combination with other herbs, making its individual effects hard to judge. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
