Doxorubicin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Phellodendron interacts with.

Theoretically, phellodendron might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Phellodendron contains berberine. In vitro research and preliminary clinical research show that berberine moderately inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, phellodendron might also inhibit CYP3A4.

Here's the basic idea. Doxorubicin is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Phellodendron contains berberine, which lab and early human studies suggest can moderately slow that enzyme down. If that happens, your body might clear doxorubicin a little more slowly, leaving more of it in your bloodstream. That could mean stronger effects and a higher chance of doxorubicin's known side effects, things like low blood counts, mouth sores, nausea, and stress on the heart.

I want to be honest with you though: this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not proven harm in people taking them together. Still, doxorubicin is powerful chemo with serious risks, so please don't add phellodendron without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

Doxorubicin is used to treat a wide range of cancers. It is given as part of combination chemotherapy for women with breast cancer that has spread to the lymph nodes after surgery, and it is used for many other cancers — from blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma to solid tumors like bone and soft tissue sarcomas.

It is considered a broad-spectrum cancer fighter, meaning it is active against many different tumor types. It is almost always given alongside other chemotherapy drugs rather than on its own.
