Metharbital is a barbiturate, an older seizure and sedative medicine that naturally slows down your brain and nervous system. The concern here is fairly simple: phellodendron contains berberine, and in animal studies berberine seemed to have its own calming, sedating effect. So in theory, pairing the two could stack up that slowing action.

If that happened, you might feel more drowsy, foggy, or unsteady than usual, with slower reactions. I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical, based on lab and animal work, not on real patient reports, so it is not a reason to panic. Still, since metharbital is already a strong sedative, it is worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them, especially before driving.
