Here's the gist: opium tincture (paregoric) already slows things down. It quiets the gut to stop diarrhea, but it also calms the brain, which can leave you drowsy, foggy, or slow to breathe at higher doses. Phellodendron contains berberine, and in animal studies berberine seemed to have its own calming, sedative effect.

So the worry is simple addition: if you take both, the sleepy, slowed-down feeling could stack up and become stronger. I want to be honest that this is theoretical, based on how the two work rather than real cases in people, so don't panic. Still, if you notice extra grogginess or slowed breathing, that matters. Please run this combination by your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.
