Phlorizin and Flurazepam

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Flurazepam and Phlorizin in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Flurazepam

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Flurazepam is filed under 3 classifications — benzodiazepines, cns depressants, oral drugs. Phlorizin has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) — and none of Flurazepam’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Phlorizin. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Flurazepam’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. • Unsteadiness Worth acting on
  • Hallucinations Worth acting on
  • Confusion Worth acting on

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Flurazepam. Read the label on DailyMed › Phlorizin’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Phlorizin side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Phlorizin has no side effects.

This page covers Phlorizin only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Flurazepam page lists 99 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: 1,4-butanediol (major), Activated Charcoal (major), Beer (major), Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (ghb) (major) and Grapefruit (major).

By severity: 8 major · 76 moderate · 15 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Flurazepam page

“Beer and wine sit at the top of this list for good reason. Alcohol taken with flurazepam (Dalmane), a long-acting benzodiazepine sleep medicine, can deepen sedation dangerously, a major-rated and well documented interaction.”

About Phlorizin

What is Phlorizin?

  • Blood sugar support
  • Diabetes research
  • Antioxidant
  • Weight management interest

Phlorizin is a natural plant compound (a dihydrochalcone) found in apple tree bark and other plants that has been studied mostly in the laboratory for its effects on blood sugar handling. There is no good human evidence that taking it as a supplement is safe or effective, and it is poorly absorbed when swallowed. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using any product containing it.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Phlorizin is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Phlorizin record says about it on its own.

Phlorizin: dosing

There is no established or standardized dose of phlorizin for supplement use in humans. It has mainly been used in research settings at carefully controlled amounts, not as a routine oral supplement. If you choose to use a product that contains phlorizin or apple bark extract, follow the directions on the product label and do not exceed the recommended amount.

About Flurazepam

What Is Flurazepam Used For?

Brand names: Dalmane, Somnol, Apo-Flurazepam, Bio-Flurazepam, Novo-Flurazepam, PMS-Flurazepam, Som Pam

Flurazepam Hydrochloride capsules are used to treat insomnia. Specifically, they help with difficulty falling asleep, frequent wake-ups during the night, and early morning awakening.

Because insomnia is often short-lived, flurazepam is generally intended for short-term use. If sleep problems don't improve within 7 to 10 days of treatment, a healthcare provider should evaluate whether an underlying medical or psychiatric condition may be the cause.
