Why this applies to Glipizide, Metformin

Glipizide, Metformin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Phlorizin interacts with.

Phlorizin is a potent, nonselective inhibitor of SGLT1 and SGLT2. It has been shown to reduce blood glucose levels in animal research. Theoretically, phlorizin might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. However, the likelihood of this effect is unclear due to the poor bioavailability and rapid degradation of phlorizin. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.
Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the simple version: your Metaglip combines two blood sugar lowering medicines, glipizide and metformin. Phlorizin works in the lab by flushing extra sugar out through your urine, so on paper it could pile on top of what your medication is already doing and push your blood sugar too low. Glipizide is the bigger concern here since it actively squeezes out insulin and can cause real lows.

That said, this is a theoretical concern based mostly on animal and lab studies. Phlorizin is poorly absorbed and breaks down fast when swallowed, so the real-world risk is unclear. Still, watch for signs of low blood sugar like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or confusion, and please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding any phlorizin product.
