In animal research, poria mushroom essential oil reduces acetylcholinesterase activity. This interaction has not been shown in humans.

Chlorprothixene is an older antipsychotic that, alongside its main job, has noticeable anticholinergic activity. That's the part responsible for side effects like dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, and trouble emptying the bladder. The concern here is purely theoretical: in animal studies, poria mushroom appeared to nudge up acetylcholine levels, which could in principle work against chlorprothixene's anticholinergic effects.

In plain terms, the worry is that poria might slightly blunt some of this drug's effects. But this has never been shown in people, and the evidence is weak. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since chlorprothixene is a serious medication, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding poria.

Poria mushroom (Fu Ling) is a fungus long used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, mainly as a mild diuretic and digestive and calming aid.
