CHOLINERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Echothiophate
Echothiophate falls under CHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Poria Mushroom interacts with.
In animal research, poria mushroom essential oil reduces acetylcholinesterase activity. This interaction has not been shown in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Phospholine Iodide (echothiophate), which is an eye drop used for glaucoma. It works by blocking an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which lets your body's natural acetylcholine build up and keep the eye's drainage open. Now, some early lab work suggests Poria mushroom might also nudge that same enzyme in the same direction. So in theory, the two together could add up and give you a bit more cholinergic effect than expected.
What might that look like? Things like extra eye watering, blurry or dim vision, brow ache, or more rarely body-wide effects like sweating or a slow heartbeat. I'll be honest, though: this is purely theoretical and only seen in animals, never confirmed in people. Don't change anything on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before combining them.

About Poria Mushroom
What is Poria Mushroom?
- Fluid retention and swelling
- Digestive complaints
- Sleep and calming support
- General wellness and immune support
- Urinary support
Poria mushroom (Fu Ling) is a fungus long used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, mainly as a mild diuretic and digestive and calming aid. Modern scientific evidence in humans is very limited, so its benefits are not well proven. It is generally considered well tolerated, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to a lack of safety data.
