Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Ganaxolone
Ganaxolone falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Poria Mushroom interacts with.
Animal research shows that poria mushroom extract has sedative properties. This interaction has not been shown in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Ganaxolone (Ztalmy) is a seizure medicine that works by calming activity in the brain, and one of its most common effects is drowsiness or sleepiness. Poria mushroom has shown mild sedative, calming properties in animal studies, so the concern here is simply additive: combining the two could, in theory, leave you feeling more sleepy, foggy, dizzy, or low on energy than Ganaxolone alone.
I want to be honest about the evidence though. This is a theoretical interaction based on lab and animal work, and it has not been shown in people. It is not a dangerous combination on paper, just something to be aware of. If you take Ganaxolone and want to try Poria, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and notice how alert you feel before driving.

What is Poria Mushroom?
- Fluid retention and swelling
- Digestive complaints
- Sleep and calming support
- General wellness and immune support
- Urinary support
Poria mushroom (Fu Ling) is a fungus long used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, mainly as a mild diuretic and digestive and calming aid. Modern scientific evidence in humans is very limited, so its benefits are not well proven. It is generally considered well tolerated, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to a lack of safety data.
